Since his election to the House in 2014, Guzzardi has been a champion of progressive causes in Springfield. He passed legislation to raise Illinois's minimum wage to $15 an hour, which was then vetoed by Gov. Rauner. He launched the Tuition Free Illinois campaign and introduced legislation to make public universities and community colleges tuition free for in-state students. He has led the way on legislation to reform the criminal justice system, improve public education, strengthen LGBTQ rights, and protect our state's environment.
Will Guzzardi is State Representative from the 39th District. Currently in his second term, he is one of the leading progressive voices in the legislature.
Rep. Guzzardi has lived in Chicago's Logan Square neighborhood since 2009. Prior to serving in the legislature, he worked in journalism and communications for Huffington Post and the University of Chicago, while also remaining active in local and state organizing. He worked with local community groups to prevent school closings in the neighborhood. He has fought alongside affordable housing activists against gentrification and in favor of holistic community development. And as an advisory board member of Chicago Votes, he helped win the passage of online voter registration in Illinois in 2013.
We have chosen candidates who we believe will fight hardest for the issues we stand for.
